What's
your name?
Mat
Where
is it?
Mama Mia Pepe, Infirmary Road , Sheffield, S6
What's
the grub like, then?
Not bad for a small Italian restaurant tucked away in Sheffield
six. Right from the starter the portions were very generous. The
muscles in tomato and garlic sauce were pleasant, but the sauce
got lost beneath the shells. The garlic mushrooms were well recieved
by my dining companion and proved to be neither too greasy nor too
over-cooked. For the main I chose the steak diane, which proved
a little chewy, but still tasted quite good all the same. The pasta
and roasted vegetables which my stalwart vegetarian partner opted
to try was again a very generous dish that went down well.
What
did you drink?
Even though there was a small but well stocked bar we took along
a bottle of red wine ourselves and found out that they don't charge
for corkage, which is a definite point in their favour.
What's
the crowd like?
On the week-night that we went there were only two other parties
there and one was a young family; but I have heard that this place
gets full to bursting at the weekend, so be warned.
And
the vibe?
Small and very Friendly and very down-to-earth, the chef and owner
is in the habit of chatting to the diners about everything from
the food on the menu to the customs of his native land.
Anything
else you'd like to say?
Unlike some restaurants, this place seems very happy to welcome
families as well as couples parties of adults.
Value
for money?
We had two starters and two main courses and that came to exactly
£22.80. Admittedly we didn't buy any drinks, but that's still only
£11.40 each for a decent meal in a very welcoming little restaurant.
Ray I must have gone on the wrong night. Found none of the above on my visit
mrs. powell very friendly staff and pepe will always have a laugh and a joke with you no matter how busy he is.aubergine starter and the lamb main course are to die for,go on give it a go but then maybe not because we have problems get in now cause its so popular,so its best to book.enjoy
Darren Wilson Love this place. They do the best spicy meatballs and the staff are so friendly. Wine is cheap and you always go away stuffed but without a hole in your pocket!
mia casey i thought it was brilliant
