What's
your name?
Catherine and Mark
Where
is it?
Kumquat Mae Vegetarian Restaurant
353 Abbeydale Rd
Sheffield
S7 1FS
What's
the number? 0114
250 1076
What's
the grub like, then?
It's a veggie restaraunt with a global menu. All top nosh, and decent
portions (rarely the case with veggie food in Sheffield). Of the
starters we've tried, we'd recommend the spiced lentil soup and
the bruschetta in particular. Mains we've had have all been great,
and substantial enough that we've never tried the desserts!
What
did you drink?
It's bring-your-own. We had a beautifully peppery Grenache from
nearby Oddbins.
What's
the crowd like?
Guardian-reading Sharrovians, augmented by the occasional Nether
Edger.
And
the vibe?
Relaxed and friendly, with a first-rate CD collection.
Value
for money?
Yes. Mains are a tenner, starters a fiver.

Sarah Johnson This place is great. Me and my mum went and we both loved the atmosphere, the chilled out attitude, and the food - we will definately go back for the peach crumble with ice cream! Beautiful!
Carl I had one of the best meals of my life here and its a great place. If you manage a starter, main and pudding with their portions then you deserve to be called a greedy cow.
Sarah Good food, good atmosphere, good price.
What more can I say?
Rob A nice unhurried night out with tasteful background music. A second (daytime) outlet has opened on the top floor of the antiques centre on a street nearby. 27/05/05
fuzball i wasnt happy paying £10 at TGI fridays for a meal but this is a different story. I had a great meal the hummus dip was the nicest ive ever had must have been home made.
Susan You get what you pay for here, and that's quite a lot! The food isn't cheap (about £10 for a main course) but I think that reflects the quality of the ingredients and preparation - and also, maybe, the fact that because they're not licenced, there's nowhere else for the mark-up to go.
There's no excuse for not trying the desserts. Anything they do with chocolate lingers, deliciously, on the mind. My advice is to have two starters and a dessert. Trust me, it's worth it.
