Jaflong
Reader Review!
Mat loves the Butlers Balti House! Bring on the curry!
Noisy, and picking up the post-pub trade - but Mat reckons the baltis are pretty good...

What's your name?
Mat

Where is it?
Jaflong, 182 Northfield Road, Crookes, Sheffield, S10

What's the number?
0114 266 1802

What's the grub like, then?
Little more than one medium-sized room on the way home after a night out in Broomhill and Crookes, Jaflong nevertheless is capable of producing a meal of some quality.

The balti dishes on offer here are very good and the naan far less greasy than their nearest local rivals.

Just be warned if you feel like ordering a hot dish though, they like to leave the seeds in the chillies and watch the eyes bulge out of their sockets.

What did you drink?
A carafe of red wine that was probably nicer than my beer-assaulted palate would allow.

What's the crowd like?
To say that you won't find romantic couples in this place on a Saturday night is an understatement.

This is a curry house firmly established on a clientele of after pub curry monsters in large roaming packs.

There's also a pretty constant traffic of takeaway customers trooping in and out.

I've even seen a studenty bloke come in here and beg almost on his knees for a curry just after they had stopped taking orders, and lovely chaps that they are they did him one anyway.

And the vibe?
Very noisy and very smokey. Intimate this place ain't.

Value for money?
Thirty quid for two meals of two courses and wine. Middling in the value stakes.

Don't think the reviewer gave the jaflong a fair shot, I mean how can you judge a restaurant when you're drunk. Been loads of times and always been impressed by the value and food. Not smokey or noisy. Best choice in a curry house menu I've seen in Sheffield, they do mini portions for the kids if you ask and always helpful and friendly.

Kate
Wonderful take out, friendly service. Five moos!

Having been to my fair share of curry houses in sheffield I can confidently say Jalfong does the best currys by far! they must be doing something right for this to be the only curry house I go back to time and time again.

Best Curry house in Sheffield, Take Away is as good as the real thing, you can bring your own drinks, the menu is decent value too! Yes the room is a bit small, but the service is friendly and the food is to die for! You'll keep coming back...

Really good food, best Naans around. I have never found it to be smokey or noisy. You always have to wait quite a while but it doesn't claim to be a fast food place. 18/04/05

While there are plenty of students who go to the Jaflong they are normally a lot more refined than those that haunt Broomhill's curry houses. Though the small room means that your enormous Naans are fighting for room with your elbows, big currys, and neighbour's drinks. It's always delicious and normally costs about a tenner and that includes a decent pint of Kingfisher. Only down point is the test-tube sized glasses soft drinks are served in so get a pint or bring your own booze.

Yeah, I agree with the reaction to the main review; I have been here a few times and the food is always brilliant. The service is also splendid. A different world to BALTI KING. Jaflong is great. Simple as that. So sue me. Ha

Think I've had everything off the menu and never been disappointed. We keep just coming back.

Definately doesn'y do this place justice. I’d give it 5 stars for the food, the prices, the friendly staff and cosy atmosphere. Its never been noisy and smoky in my experience. They even do free delivery and the take aways are just as good. I want one now! Sort it out, Mat!

Mat is just wronge on this. It's a 5* for sure. The Jafflong has been my fave curry house since it opened 6 ish years ago. It's jammed just about every night so I'm not alone in this one. Do another review!!!!

Poor review man. Jaflong has seved me well over the years. with a take away service that is always 45 mins bang on; unlike a certain Broomhill Balti house where its ready just after you've put the phone down. Proper curries cooked properly. None of your microwave and throw in more chili/curry powder here. Have been trying to work my way through the menu and even the coconut dishes I habve liked, and i hate coconut. Jaflong rocks like Keith moon and Keith Richards left alone in a Pub with Ollie Reid as the Barman.

The best thing about buying a house in Crookes? Being a stones throw from the Jaflong. An excellent place for experimenting with dishes, everything I have ordered has been superb. Friendly staff and unbeatable prices add to the reasons why it's always packed. Beats the over-rated Balti houses in the area by miles.

Andy
To give the Jaflong 3 stars is ludicrous. Sublime curries, with a wide variety of tastes and strenghts. If the reviewer is going to visit after a night on the beer, OF COURSE he's going to find it full of beer monsters (such as himself..). A curry house worthy of at least 4 stars. Shame on the man!

Jaflong is to curry what Beyonce Knowles is to the wold of pop music. It's by far the best curry house I've ever been to; reasonabley priced, convenient with decent sized meals. The best curry in Sheffield? Certainly.

Karen
The reviewer doesn't do the Jaflong justice. It's definitely a post-pub stop off, but it's also a lot more. Visit at 8pm and there will be families and groups of friends enjoying great food and excellent service. My friends and I visited the day before new year's eve and of 6 of us, not one was disappointed with their choice. There's always a queue of people waiting to collect carry-outs, which is always a good sign and you can bring your own booze. No need for further comment...

Emma
This review is not up to what the restaurant offers. This place is fantastic. It is really cheap compared to everything else in England. Wonderful!
