I disagree strongly with the 'One Moo' rating for Froggies. I've eaten there numerous times, and can honestly say that it's one of the best places to eat in Sheffield. Both the veggie and carnivorous options are excellent, and the menu changes often enough to keep you coming back.
Great atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, and above all great food at a more than reasonable price. And the fact that it's bring your own wine makes the overall bill no more than average priced.
Compared to the run-of-the-mill restaurants with unchanging and uninspired menus that abound in Sheffield Froggies is a breath of fresh air.

Despite the bad main review on here the others (and the menu) persuaded me to give it a try. I must say it was great. We were half an hour late and phoned to say so, which was fine. The food was great - especially the veggie options, the atmosphere was nice and it was really friendly. It seems a shame that the main review here is so negative, when clearly a bad experience at this restaurant appears to be a one off.

To be hoenst i'm really shocked on some of the views on this site for this restaurant.. I've been on a few occasions and it's really nice. Ypu should give it a try!

My partner and I have been on a few occasions - New Year's Eve being one. All were very enjoyable and we shall be returning in the future. Excellent food, good service and a nice little restaurant. No complaints at all.

I have to second RC's comments, I have been to Froggies numerous times and have never been disappointed, (apart from in my own judgement on occasions when the food on someone else's plate looked even better than my own!). My partner is a vegetarian and is never short of praise for the quality and variety of dishes that Froggies provides. One of the best restraunts in Sheffield

I've been to Froggies on four or five occasions but the last time I went I vowed to make it the last time. I know lots of restaurants just aren't good at preparing vegetarian food, even though the meat dishes are excellent. My complaint was simply that after a long wait, my microwaved meal was still frozen in the middle. Ugh!

I am genuinely surprised to find that anyone has had a bad experience with Froggies and I won't pad this out with my usual florid prose, Froggies is excellent, the razor and stupendous starclams are an inspiredter, the mains are excellent, the quality of the ingredients is always apparent, the staff are efficient, unintrusive and informal and if you haven't been, you really should go! 08/06/05

My fiance and I had the pleasure of being invited for dinner at Froggies by some friends last Friday. We're all avid "foodies" and I my mouth began to water just reading the menu. The place was buzzing and the service was excellent. The food (I ate a starter of goats cheese wrapped in bacon and sea bream fillets for main course) was absolutely delicious, so good that my fiance wanted to go back the following night! We'll certainly be returning very soon! 26/05/05

I just have to add my support to the growing number of readers disputing the one moo given to Froggies. It would be such a shame if this stopped people visiting a 1st class restaurant. The food, service and atmosphere have been outstanding on numerous occasions. The greedy cow should book a table asap and give her opinion!

me and my sister went one day, and the food did take a very long time to come (total dining experience came to 2 and a half to 3 hours), but its more of a restaurant where people go to chill out, chit chat, and enjoy their meal with a bottle of wine. the food, atmosphere and service was good. i will dine there again, but not until i've tried the rest of the restaurants in and around sheffield!!

Vaughan is plain wrong and the review needs to be reappraised. I have eaten at Froggies on numerous (10+) occassions. The menu is always imaginative and very tasty and the service and atmosphere are, as other people have stated, friendly, and informal. The 'distant' blackboard can have been no more than 4 metres away -its a small place! I'm sure it could have been read aloud to him if this reviewer couldn't be bothered to crane his neck. It sounds like the regular French chef was not around and the whole experience was a typical of a restaraunt that is worth far more than being condemned in this way. Any why are people so emotional Vaughan ? Sheffield has very few unpretentious restaraunts with genuine character, excellent food - including vegetarian - at a good price. This is one of them and it deserves all the good publicity it can get.

I have had the pleasure of eating in Froggies numerous times. I also eat at other restaurants but when I have I always find I come away dissapointed and wishing I had gone to Froggies. They spoil you so be warned!
I'm also pleased to see that they keep my favourite started on the menu....Roast Beetroot...Hmmm it makes my mouth water thinking about it.

It seems that some people are implying that Vaughan has deliberately written a 'bad' review. Surely the idea of this website is to publish both good AND bad reviews if that honestly reflects the reviewer's experience?

I can't believe I've just read such a miserable review!
What a great shame the original reviewer only felt Froggies was worth one begrudged 'cow pat'. One would look down the list of restaurants and probably not give Froggies a second glance due to the dismal mark.
I have never had a 'bad dining experience' here - and even if I had, I'd like to give it a second chance before condemning it to such a perpetual low mark here. Sometimes the service can be 'European', but it's certainly not any inconvenience as the ambiance is always cordial and relaxed.
I'd agree with the person who reckoned the reviewer seemed to be intent upon a bad review from the moment he entered the door. Shame really, the restaurant deserves much better IMO.
Vaughan, please don't feel urged to comment on my comments, this isn't a 'chat room' and you should not give up the day job. "Restaurant Reviewer" is not a good career move for you!

Vaughan, We're sorry you cannot accept our opinion of your review. you appear to take it personally, however, the other replies give a better indication of broader views regarding the restaurant. No, we do not have shares in Froggies, but should they ever be issued...
Stephen/Kevin
Not at all accurate in my opinion.Myself and a party of 10 had a fantastic birthday meal. Even the late comers were served quickly, the food looked spectacular and tasted even better. A great night out
Vaughan
Having read Martyn & Charlotte's comment, could I put at least part of the rcord straight? (not that what I wrote is unclear!) Actually, I'd had a great birthday up to that point. And we'd been to Froggies before and enjoyed it...so it was a vote of confidence to go again. It was just a bad dining experience- M & C, have you ever had one? The whole point of this website is to tell it like you found it (read the notes on how the Greedy One handles these situations.) But hang on... why so emotional, M & C? You can read harsher crits in the Sunday papers every week. Or have you got shares in Froggies...?!
Martyn & Charlotte
Sounds more like the reviewer had a bad day rather than the restaurant. It rather reads as though he were intent on dissing it from the start, then kicked up a fuss to get a Birthday 'freebie'.
We've tried 'Froggies' a good few times now and believe the original review in no way does the place (or more importantly, the food) credit.

did you go to the same froggies that i have been to umpteen times? every time i go the food is excellant, the service prompt and friendly and the general atmos is relaxed and easy going. it is always busy too. there is a great variety of food and the waitresses always chatty. as for the specials, is it too much trouble to stand up and have a look, and from my recollection the writing on the boards is always large enough to read from where your sitting.
Liz
I don't know whether the restaurant has changed hands since the first reviewer went there, but my experience of Froggies has been entirely different. Food and service are very good and there is an excellent choice for vegetarians. Sheffield is not generally very good for eating out, but this is one of the better places.

I've been and found the food to be excellent. The starters are huge and good quality - they would make a good main course for someone with a slightly smaller appetite. The service was reasonably attentive. The only thing we didn't like was that our main course arrived immediately after the last mouthful of starters had gone in; there wasn't time for a cigarette or to let the food go down. That was probably because we were the last party to arrive (9pm) and they were trying to hurry us through.

The above restaurant mentioned 'Froggies Bistro' has been an entirely different experience for my husband, friends and I. We live in the South of France and are well experienced in eating both French cuisine and other cuisine from all over the world. It has been a hobby trying various restaurants of good calibre, and as a small family run business we have found the food and presentation to be of excellent standard and very good value. With an extensive choice for such a small place to suit all taste (vegetarians included). The service was friendly and informal. Every time we visit friends in Sheffield we try to get a table here but be warned often fully booked.
