What's your name?
Jack Atkinson

Where is it?
Chez Lahlou
10 Commonside
Crookesmoor
Sheffield S10

What's the number?
0114 268 6983

What's the grub like, then?
The food is amazing, both quality and quantity. As you arrive you are greeted with free chicken wings and bread as appetisers. These are enough for a starters, bear this in mind if you've never been.

Starters range from frogs legs (gorgeous), snails, mussells, goose pate etc and are served simply in a French country kitchen style.

The main course I had of a game platter was delicious. Quail, Pheasant, Guinnea foul and wood pidgeon, all roasted to perfection and served with strawberries. it was HUGE, and if this wasn't enough it came with potatoes, chips and a selection of veg.

Others dining with me had steak with crabmeat and stilton and French lamb. Everyone enjoyed it and what you leave they wrap up for you to take home!

What did you drink?
House wine... weak but moderate

What's the crowd like?
Very good. People who know this place come back often

And the vibe?
Cramped, this place is very small and can annoy some people. Other than that it's fine

Anything else you'd like to say?
Very small, terrible toilets, polite service and lots of goody bags

Value for money?
about £20 per head, but for what you get it's well worth it.

What's your name?
Jane Mitchell

What's the grub like, then?
Vast quantities of only average quality.

What did you drink?

a good bottle of red wine

What's the crowd like?
Students, professionals and courting couples

And the vibe?

Not much atmosphere - the place smelt damp and the decor was most odd

Anything else you'd like to say?
The main problem with this restaurant is the lack of space. Tables crammed into a very small space made for uncomfortable dining.

Value for money?
As we had been told by friends not to order a starter as chicken wings would be brought to us for free before our main course. We just ordered a main course. This with a bottle of red wine came to £40

The amount of food you get here is absolutely unbelievable! It is hard to believe these guys can make a profit. The food is good though but after eating the complementary chicken and starter I could not eat any more. We sent the main courses back and took them home in a doggy bag. If these people had any sense they would present a normal sized portion so people could enjoy the experience as the food is very good. Maybe taking a table out would'nt go amiss either as it is way too compact.

This is the BEST restaurant I have ever been to! I've done nothing but praise this place since my visit. The food is totally outstanding and hugh portion sizes. Going back again in 2 weeks - can't wait! 12/05/05

Food average. Restaurant decor quite odd with a musty damp odour. Too many tables crammed in made for uncomfortable dining. 20/03/05

This is a fab restaurant and I'd say it's the best in Sheffield, especially as it's not part of a chain. Substantial portions of top-notch nosh. I'd recommend everyone to try it at least once. Guaranteed you'll want to go back!

Phil
One of the best places I have ever been to for something to eat. Just don't eat all day before and go jogging or something to work your appetite up. I didn't and ended up having to leave half of my main course!

tracy
ditto - this restaurant is fab! - and thats come from a mystery shopper with 10 years of experience ! I would reccomend this to everyone.

Dan
I have to agree with all previously said. Outstanding food in every way; It lived up to it's reputation and more. Never have I seen so much beef in this country on one plate.

paul
i agree with everything already mentioned, good food.the only problem is the two sittings if you are in for the 7 o`clock you don`t get time to finish before you are under pressure to leave.it`s a good job your too full to order sweets and coffee.

Kate
The food here is amazing, the portions are huge and there is so much choice. There is no need to order a starter as the chicken wings and bread are nearly too much on their own. The main courses are very big, with a good selection of potatoes and vegetables. £20 a head with 2 bottles of wine and I couldn't eat another thing! It is quite cramped but this just adds to the atmosphere. I highly recommend Chez Lahlou. It should have 5 moo's.

i feel full just thinking about a visit to chez lahlou! the chicken wings and bread are divine. so good we had to polish them all off.main course was the most tender lamb i ever did eat.just a shame i couldn't manage the huge selection of fresh vegetables that came with it.not sure if they do puds-never got that far! my only complaint is the size of the place-very cramped (not enough room for such full bellies!)

Allie
Don't eat for a week prior to visiting Chez Lahlou ! The food is very good and VERY plentiful.I've never in my life seen so many vegetable side dishes. Complimentary crudities, fresh warm bread and chicken wings leave you full before you've even had your starter. But hang on in there, because the menu is wonderful. Service is friendly and doggy-bags are always offered when needed (at every table, then !)Fab VFM.
