What's
your name?
Anna H
Where
is it?
Canton Orchard
377 Fulwood Road
Sheffield S10
What's
the number? 0114

What's
the grub like, then?
Incredible, top class cantonese food. Szechwan eggplant is the most
delicious thing I've ever tasted, no really. Top quality ingredients,
no funny coloured sugary sauces, a jewel amongst chinese restaurants.
What
did you drink?
started with a delicious bottle of red, after that it all became
a blur. There is an extensive winelist, not cheap but good value
for money.
What's
the crowd like?
a mixture really, you don't have to dress up to go there but it
is the kind of place where Margot and Jerry from the good life might
go, however Tom and Barbara would feel equally at home.
And
the vibe?
Excellent. The table is yours for the night, the staff are attentive
but discreet.
Anything
else you'd like to say?
Don't be put off if you call to book. They don't have a terribly
professional phone manner but be assured your booking will be made
properly and the evening will be a treat.
Value
for money?
It wasn't cheap but you can have as few or as many dishes as you
like, it is very flexible. The food is excellent and well worth
the money. Me and the fella shared a couple of starters and 2 or
3 main courses, plus a couple of bottles of wine and we paid around
£22 per head.

Cliff Parker We went on a Saturday night. This is by far the most overpriced and over rated chinese restaurant in Sheffield. The service was poor (my partners starter arrived 10 minutes aftermine! The crispy duck was cold and the main dishes totally uninspired with insipid sauces. A horrid experience. Give this one a wide berth!
Shorty I cannot believe this place got so many moo`s. Food is at best mediocre, service is poor and if you are not careful you will get talked into buying overpriced awful wine. Give me Hui Wei any day.
Greg I also live staggering distance from the Canton Orchard. Having recently moved to Sheffield my girlfriend and I decided to give it a try. Average service, average food (at best) and overpriced. I've eaten at a lot of Chinese/Cantonese restaurants in the past this is not one I would return to. It seemed to be quite busy though, maybe it attracts punters because it looks posh and is in Ranmoor.
Nick I travel all over the world with my profession and Canton Orchard is definitely one of the best chinese restaurants I have ever been to, and that includes my frequent visits to Hong Kong. The only restaurant to beat it was one in chinatown in New York. It's fantastic for a restaurant of this quality to be on your doorstep.
Paul I'm amazed to see the negativity about this restaurant. I am extremely well travelled and Canton Orchard offers some of the best Chinese food around. It isn't the best I've had, but it is the best in Sheffield by FAR! Oh, and whilst it might be pricey, if you are a 'good egg' you will find that this is tempered by the frequent free bottles of (good) wine the jovial host offers when he starts to know your face.
Louise This place is absoloutely fantastic and definitely the best restaurant in Sheffield by far. The lemon chicken is the best thing on the menu. The service is wonderful - all the staff are very friendly and attentive. It's set in a lovely area in a lovely old house. This is definitely an incredible restaurant well worth visiting.
Linda Went to the Canton Orchard Saturday evening - and it was a truely awful experience. The service was terrible - we had one meal delivered and then waited ages for the others to arrive at various intervals. When it did come the food was not particularly good - ranging from extremely oily to bland (although the chicken with hot sauce was apparently very good). But by far the worst was the service - our table was not laid, we had to ask someone to take our order, we asked on two occasions for drinks - they never arrived, no-one asked if we wanted desserts (they never actually came to clear away the main courses). In the end we put on our coats and paid at the bar on the way out (actually we could hardly get to the bar due to the stacks of dirty glasses). All in all a disappointing experience I would not wish to repeat. Obviously, judging from other reviews, this restaurant has its good and bad days but I would have thought they would have got their act together for a Saturday night.
James In response to Marks comment, they do take Mastercard & Visa but not Switch/Maestro
James T After the Sheffield Star gave the Canton Orchard five stars all round a few years back I had been itching to give it a try - what a mistake. It felt like a run down old people's home inside, the food was mediocre at best and the service was the most pushy I have encountered. This coupled with the extortionate bill (£50 for 2 starters, 2 mains and 1 bottle of mineral water)rounded off a very poor experience.
Heather This is the WORST chinese I have ever been to! For starters we had duck and pan cakes, I'm convinced the duck was microwaved and the poor spring onions looked a week old. The crockery was all cracked and the plastic chopsicks had seen better days. (Don't they realise they are disposable not re-usable?!) Main course was just as disgusting, I only eat 2 pieces of chicken as the first two had grissle in them so I couldn't bear to eat any more! I pity the others who have left reviews -- please come to china town in London and taste what chinese food is all about!!!
Phil I've been to most of the Chinese/Cantonese restaurants in Sheffield and the Canton Orchard and it is by far the best. The food is excellent and Tsapman Lee the owner is always very friendly. I'm not sure where Mark went but this place has always taken plastic the 14 years I have been going. This place is wonderful for special occasions or that romantic night out. Definitely 5 moo's.
Mark Canton Orchard is a chinese I've been to a number of times, being staggering distance home, but is not one I would travel to. Food is OK to good, but the decor is rather shabby (despite the outside appearence) and atmosphere is missing. I'd only give it 3 moos! They don't take plastic, and there are no banks within easy walk, so don't forget a cheque book or cash!
