easily the best indian food i have ever tasted. none of the mass
produced burn your mouth away mush that you can get. the choice
and service was excellent. we thought the starters were beyond belief,
and then the main course surpassed all expectations. the host, balram,
has to be congatulated on this latest venture. would very highly
recomend this
What
did you drink?
as i was driving i had the fruite juice, and i was very envious
of the wine drinking section of our party. a good, comprehensive
and resonably priced wine list. the barman was tremndously helpful.
What's
the crowd like?
very agreeable
And
the vibe?
a real Restaurant, pleasent and not overbearing. good decoration.
Anything
else you'd like to say?
this is a Restaurant that came highly recomended to us and i would
highly recomend it to all. the service was incredible, i was even
asked if i would like to look around the kitchin.the owner has obvious
pride in his work.
Value
for money?
this is not a fast food establishmet. it has good food that is worth
every penny. our party of four spent £60 on food and around
£25 on drinks. if i had space i would have eaten more.

What's
the grub like, then?
All food freshly prepared and cooked by Balrams wife. A real culinary
experience, the Chicken Jalfrezi I had was probably the best anyone
on our table had ever had ! Home made kulfi was superb, give the
mango one a try.
What
did you drink?
We were drinking shorts but Balram is very keen to get his wine
list to the standard of his food - now that will be hard !
What's
the crowd like?
Probably regulars and how lucky they were to have discovered Balrams
And
the vibe?
Very friendly and anxious to ensure we all enjoyed the experience
Anything
else you'd like to say?
GO there as soon as you can !!
Value
for money? For 4 of us including starters, main course, bottle of wine,
few shorts, liquor coffees, kulfi and even a drink for Balram and
his wife - £95 (beat that !!)

Iain I went on a charity night held for the BHF the food was excellent. Not very often have I been overfaced with food. The food didn't burn you so I could taste all the spices. The Gurkha lager was excellent. Balram and his wife and staff make the evening a pleasurable evening and their attempt to make your evening a great experience and no rushing like at so many other restaurants was a refreshing change. Prices are very good 10/10 for food service experience.
Pete Fenelon Got to agree with everything that people have said here - I went over to Doncaster specially to give Balram's a go on the strength of the reviews I've seen here and was not disappointed!
Balram's has best welcome and friendliest service I've ever encountered in an Indian restraurant in 20-odd years of curry-eating, and the food's honest, generous (possibly a bit TOO generous, I couldn't finish my main course because the starter was so big!), well-cooked, subtly spiced and sensibly priced.
Gigantic mix-kebab starter with excellent meats, and the mutton mughli is a miracle - wonderfully delicate spicy creamy sauce, meat that melts in the mouth... and their nan breads are fluffy, sweet and very tasty.
And the Gurkha lager is pretty good too!
Tracey and John Ssssshhhhhh keep it quiet, best food in the area and we want to be sure of a seat !
Mike Been to various indians in the area. Read the reviews on Balrams and so we thought we'd give it a try. That was three months ago and since then we haven't stepped through another indian restaurants door, although we have been back to Balrams now several times. Balram and his wife Bindu really do spoil you. The food is excellent. Try the lamb muhgli it is out of this world. Excellent food, excellent prices and excellent company!

Jane Rolled out after experiencing Balrams 15 quid 5 course meal for Valentines.. plenty of time between courses to let it settle... excellent homestyle cooked food... Asked for more rice and was no problem at all... Mango Kulfi a dream.
Definitely a place for a quiet relaxed meal.
Once a month also, they hold a cookery evening to learn how to make proper curries etc. Price 15 quid. and you sit down and eat what u have cooked afterwards.
Go before it gets too busy :)
Rae I can't agree enough with the comment already made.
We went to Balrams after reading the rave reviews on this site. The food was indeed the best indian we have ever had and we have had a fair few.
The service was excellent and Balram couldn't do enough for us, without being in our faces.
We have booked again for a return visit which pleased Balram no end.
Well worth a visit (but don't tell too many people, we'd like to be able to get a table regularly.
Jill&Thomas Kelly We have been here on a variety of accasions and it is fantastic! the food is amazing and not at all expensive it is a wonderful and friendly atmosphere We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!
Winston & Sue Tate This Place is first rate, it really is, Balram and Bindu (his wife) are excellent hosts, and really deliver the goods, the food is trully delicious try the lamb thali, exquisite, and the beer is good too, cream flow, go on knock yourself out and dont forget to take some friends with you especially if they haven't been before they will remember you took them there and they will never be able to equal your introduction.
Richard Doncaster is unfamiliar territory so settled on Balram's on the strength of the very positive reviews here. Then to our disppointment, we found that the restaurant is shut on Monday nights (be warned)! However, Balram happened to be inside and heard us try the door. On hearing our story he opened the restaurant just for us - a table of two!! Despite this service, we retained our critical facilities and can report that the food (which was cooked for us by Balram's wife) was indeed excellent. Subtle flavours but still reasonably spicy and the lemon desert is a must (if you have room). Top marks to Balram. Looking forward to returning during official opening hours!
howard thomas Review is spot on an excellent curry house. Superb service try the lamb tikka, exceptional
David Everything is true. Has to be the best curry house in doncaster and surrounding area. Balram, the owner is wonderfull and yes he is very proud of his establishment. Having looked round his kitchen you can tell why. superb value for money. Just like to inform everyone that Balram's have a Nepalese night on August 9th. set price of £12. If it is anything like the last one I went to it will be fantastic. the food just keeps comong untill you tell them to stop. You book your table and it's yours for the night. Can't recommend it enough.
pikachu this restaurant has to be the best place i have ever eaten in.
the curries (particularly the vindaloos) are spot on, and unlike other 'indian' eateries in the area, they dont attempt to blow your head off with ultra hot curry death, you can actually taste what you are eating as well as enjoy the spiciness.
the staff are extremly friendly (they even gave me a free birthday cake when i went there for my 23rd B-day), and they actually listen to what their customers have to say about their meals.
the drinks and sweets are reasonably priced and offer a wide variety of choice, again, unlike most of the other indian places in donny.
all in all, id give Balrams 10 out of 10.
