What's
the grub like, then?
Lovely! We chose one of the set menus (there are a few to choose
from plus loads and load of other dishes).
Started with a mixed platter - lovely mini chicken and steak satay,
minced chicken drumsticks, spring rolls, wontons - the usual but
all very nicely presented and served with a choice of dipping sauces
and a very spicy salad.
Main courses were a Thai green chicken and aubergine curry, chilli
king prawns, mixed veg and egg fried rice. The flavours were amazing
and everything just melted in your mouth!
For desert we chose the Thai custard tart, and the Pancake roll
- both very sweet, and served with a good portion of icecream and
fancy bits!
What
did you drink?
Bottled Thai Beer - very nice at around £2.50 a bottle
What's
the crowd like?
Mainly couples
And
the vibe?
Very nice, relaxed. It's quite a big restaurant, but has been furnished
really well to give it a nice luxurious feel.
Anything
else you'd like to say?
The food and service was excellent. The staff gave us loads of attention,
and the owner, Golf, came and spoke to us for about 10 minutes after
the meal. It all helped to make us feel really special!
Value
for money?
The whole bill came to £51 for 2 of us, including drinks and
coffees afterwards. Definitely worth it, especially for a special
occasion.

What's
the grub like, then? Another
bland eating experience in Sheffield! The medium spicy dishes were
extremely mild and rather soggy. Bit like Sundy roast served three
hours ago.
And
the vibe? Busy
and pleasant colonial interior

Vikki and Mark Went for my birthday. Atmosphere great, food great, price great, staff great. Don't really need to say more!.
Marie Went on a Saturday night with a party of 16. The food and the service were excellent. Will definitely go again.
Paul I have visited it twice. On both occasions the food was excellent, complimented with attentive staff. Probably one of my favourite restaurants in Sheffield. Very nice decor to boot.
Eric Opulent surroundings and enthusiastic service. Menu is extensive, and averagely priced for traditional Thai food - not limited to just the usual green curries and satay chicken skewers. Ingredients are clearly very fresh and portions are generous. Implementation however was found to be slightly mild, though do not confuse this with blandness. I get the distinct impression that this is to suit the local palate as a quiet word with the manager on duty resulted in a far more "traditional" experience. Now I know how to order dishes how *I* like them, I would certainly visit this restaurant again.
A2 Went last Saturday (30/07/05)
had Set Meal E as many of our party had not tried thai before. All totally amazing.
Fresh fragrant ingredients and wonderful service. The best Thai in town. Can't wait to visit again ! 4 stars !
Jane The decor is nice, and food it good too (can't wrong with Thai food!). But found the service a little too over the top and false - just let me have my meal with my friends in peace!
Kerry & Ian The King Prawn starter is amazing, great food, lovely staff and a wide ranging menu.
Kristina Great food, great price, great atmosphere, can't say enough about Baan Thai!
Paul One poster says "Finally Sheffield gets a great Thai restaurant.
".
Sheffield already has a pretty good Thai restaurant (Baan Nah). In my opinion, Baan Thai is a Thai restaurant for people who like glitzy surroundings but have little experience of Thai food. The food was OK, don't get me wrong, but Baan nah or the Thai on London road give far better quality at lower prices, they just miss out on the decor!
David Went for my birthday. Second time in about 3 months.
Service is excellent and waiters so attentive. Food is gorgeous. Bill came to £55 including a bottle of their Thai wine for 2 of us.
Excellent. Get their early evening as it gets very busy and tables can be a little close together. Will go again and am recommending to friends.
Mat Fantastic restaurant, I was sad to see Barbarella's go, but this place more than makes up for the loss!
Peter & Sheila We tried the £7 lunch menu - there was plenty of choice and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff were really nice and we'll be back soon.
Nicola Took my husband for a meal there last night - no special occasion, just fancied a nice Thai meal. We were not disappointed! The service was really great, the waiters and waitresses were so attentive and friendly. The food was excellent. We had chicken & prawn parcels, and chicken wrapped in some kind of leaf, for starters. For main we had sweet and sour chicken, and chilli king prawns with sticky rice. All was delicious - not a morsel was left on our plates. For dessert my husband had ice cream which was also nice (had to have a little spoonful myself, just to test it...). The bill came to £40 which also included 2 glasses of wine. Not bad value for a superb meal and excellent service. Will definitely be going back soon.
Jamie Spot on. Food, service, atmosphere and decor top notch and all for £50 for 2 incl. drink. Having been to many Thai restaurants I can honestly say that Sheffield can be proud to have this one.
Simon Great selection on the menu and reasonably priced for a Thai restaurant. Finally Sheffield gets a great Thai restaurant.
John Mesmerising menu! Agree with all the comments. Can be pricey, but for that special occasion ... We managed to spend £95 eating a la carte including booze. Well worth it.
Tom We tried it at lunch time. The three course (starter, main and coffee) for £7.00. The food was amazing. Great value for the quality.
