Ooh,
I love it when I find somewhere like this.
The
Bull and I fell in through the door, eager to shelter from the tropical
rainstorm that had got lost and ended up hovering over London Road.
We found ourselves in the Chinese version of your egg-and-chips
caff.
Chinese
pop music tinkled at us, and the days specials were scrawled
on fluorescent card and taped to the wall. Random Chinese pictures
and posters were scattered around us, and instead of mustard and
ketchup, the tables were adorned with jars of scary-looking chilli
oil.
The
Bull ordered chicken chilli soup, and I had chicken with cashewnuts.
We were concerned that, given the low prices, this wouldnt
be enough, so we asked for some prawn crackers to chomp on while
we waited. We shouldn't have worried.
The
crackers signalled good things were to come. They were fresh. Really
fresh. Still warm from the deep fryer, and very crunchy.
Then
our waiter arrived with the Bulls soup, struggling under the
weight of the massive, overflowing bowl. The Bull immediately fell
in, and began slurping away in a most unattractive manner. "How
is it?" I asked daintily. "Its very very good,"
he spluttered. I tasted a little. It was delicious, and the chilli
burned the back of my throat. Excellent.
My
chicken and cashewnuts was nearly as generous, and I wolfed it down.
It was good. Not outstanding, but hey, whos complaining? At
these prices and with these portions, its a winner.
Jo Mansell The Tim Po Moor is one of my favourite places to eat. The food is delicious and never disappointing and the restaurant still maintains much of the old cafe feel. The menu is huge and the choice for carnivores, vegetarians and vegans alike is great. The staff are really friendly and it’s cheap enough to eat there every week - which we do!
I agree with Giles - go along and try the salt and pepper tofu.
Giles Charter They've moved to the top of London Rd and are now called Tim Po Moor. Same cheerful people, same good food (vegan heaven) but marginally posher, which was never going to be difficult. Eat there and try the salt and pepper tofu.

Various Chinese dishes from an extensive menu. For both a vegan
and a carnivore the only problem was deciding what to have!
Lots
of people from the local chinese community popping in and out to
eat - a good sign!
Tin
Po is like a Chinese version of the Kashmir on Spital Hill - basic
dining facilites, no fuss, just damn good food!
It's
only just started opening until 10pm, whereas before it was only
a daytime Chinese cafe - a secret gem discovered!
Value
for money? Absolutely - the bill came to £14 and we both were completey
stuffed! Four moos from me!
