Where is it?
The Chequers Inn, Dronfield Lane, Coal Aston, Sheffield

What's the number?

What's the grub like, then?
Two for the price of one! and huge platefuls - what more could you ask for!!

We ordered 1/2 roast chicken with chips and peas, and a 8oz burger with cheese & bacon, fries and salad. Total cost was £7.45 for the two meals.

The food was great - well cooked chicken, lovely burger, thick chipped fries. There was so much we couldnt manage it all.

Dessert was 3 scoops of Carte D'Or icecream at £2.25 and a Knickerbocker Glory at £2.50. Lovely icecream and plenty of it!

What did you drink?
White wine and soda and a pint of lager - total £3.70. We then noticed the bottles of house wine at £5.95 which were quite good for the price.

What's the crowd like?
Lots of families as it has a Wacky Warehouse attached. However kids are "banned" after 9.30pm. Lots of Sneior Citizens as well. Quite busy - we went on a Thursday night but apparently gets very busy at the weekend.

And the vibe?
The pub had quiet background music on but you could definitely talk above it. We sat in the non smoking section which was clean. The smoke from the bars didnt come across to our area. The bar staff were friendly and efficient and lots of waitresses were on hand to cater for your every need.

Value for money?
Meals available all day every day from 10am to 10pm. The toilets have entertaining "things you didnt know" to read on the walls which makes for long trips to the bathroom as there are 60 odd to read!! Very good sounding Sunday Lunch at £8.95 - buy one get one free!

Its true the staff are great and work very hard. The food however....They have truly mastered the art of 'ping' quisine. Typical chain pub. Nothing special.

Its full of people in shell suits from Jordanthorpe & Batemoor avoid at all costs! Its a dive!

The wife, my teenage children, and myself partake in regular visits to the Chequers, not because it is close to home but because it is the 2 for 1 menu is unbeatable value for money. The Chequers have an extensive menu that it is suitable for all pallets. A good bottle of wine for around £6 or a pint for under £2. We have tried many family restaurants and we find this unbeatable, not only for the value for money but for the first class service by the staff and the good atmosphere. Many have commented on the problem with the steak but we would suggest the gammon. Beautiful. To summarise The Chequers “Cheap cheerful and a plateful”

when i went to the chequers 2 for 1 in dronfield the other day and i must say i was very surprised. i expected the food to be of an average quality, seen as i only paid £7.00 for 2 meals. when the meals arrived (by a very polite waiter)the plates were HUGE! the food was exceptional. i had italian chicken and my partner had BBQ ribs. the ribs were covered in sauce and there was plenty of meat on the bones. my italian chicken was the best meal i had eaten in ages. i would like to thank everybody who works at the chequers for a wonderful evening. the enthusiasm of the staff was phenominal and the chefs worked their hardest to ensure our food was cooked to the highest quality in an effient time.

PROOF that a pub chain can get it spot on. Cheap but good quality food, decent beer and great facilities for a young family. Recommended.

Craig
I agree with all the above and would like to add that you can take 2 kids and get a bottle of decent wine all for under 20 quid.

Daniel Williamson
I agree, great food and also friendly staff. All in all great value for money.
