What's
your name?
Lydia B
Where
is it?
Café Rouge
383-385 Ecclesall Rd
Sheffield
S11 8PG
What's
the number? 0114
268 2232
What's
the grub like, then?
The grub is very good! While i hear others complain that the food
sizes are too small, i found that on the contrary, the portions
ranged from the average to the large size.
Of
course, if you order a salad, its going to be smaller than a hearty
bowl of their delicious onion soup, or their hot and scrumptious
croque monsiour! I find their food to be one of their stronger qualities...
What's
the crowd like?
The clientele are very friendly, and check up on "how you are
doing" regularly, and they always have a smile on their faces!
And
the vibe?
The atmosphere was great! At lunchtime, the place has a nice buzz,
and at dinner, the atmosphere is cozy and personal...
Value
for money?
Yes, relative to other places on Ecclesall Rd., the prices are very
reasonable, and definitley worth it!

Hans do not rate this place at all - totally standard food - might as well be out of a microwave but they charge you £30 because it's cafe rouge - v poor
charmine I thought it was great, food fab and portions were good size as im not a large eater and the staff were really nice would certainly go back
Lyn L I used to love this place but it has become very disappointing. I think the service is generally poor and food can take ages even when there are only a few people in the restaurant. It's still a nice place to share a bottle of wine, olives and bread but I wouldn't bother with a full meal there now.
Gareth W Have eaten there twice. Both times we really felt we weren't in a chain restaurant due to the service and food, in fact the food was excellent, far supassing expectations on both visits although I can sympathise with the portion size complaint which was an issue on my 2nd visit. The atmosphere and decor is also good which you can't always take for granted in Sheffield. Recommended
John F Went rcently and found it to be over priced, poor food and service. The staff did not seem to care. Won't be going back.
AJ We went mob handed, about 15 of us, and they were great in the restaurant. i envy the seafood fans with bloody great dishes of mussels, looked amazing. my beouf bourgignon was wonderful, as well as the marquise au chocolat for dessert. everyone there had a great time, would reccomend to any large groups for a very very good night out. 08/06/05
Roddy Have only ever eaten there once in the evening (which was very good I thought) but we usually go for breakfast on a Sunday. It's never too busy, you can spend as long as you like reading the papers and having another cup of coffee. And they do a perfect poached egg every time.
JIMBOB McLAINE Food was great, and service was with a big smile. Everyone left the resturant satisfied especially those who had sampled the house speciality mussels. Watch out for the 10% service charge on groups over 8.
Karla & Nathan We were very dissapointed with this place. The service was OK. The food is terrible and costly. We had a pasta dish with asparagus and courgette etc. It seemed like a childs portion and was devoid of any asparagus at all, the courgette was almost non existent and so fine I'm sure it was a bit of chopped parsley. This cost us £32 for a very light lunch (including 2 children under the age of 4) We certainly will not go again. It was nothing that I couldn't have done at home by opening a few tins!!
OJ Your review is spot on. If only I'd read it before I went.
I too ordered a goats cheese salad and was rewarded with tiny titbits of cheese on toast on a few salad leaves.
To add insult to injury I'd had a pate starter which arrived with nowhere near enough bread for the pate. So I'd had to order a side order of bread.
You'd think that a waiter would warn you that your meal is mainly going to consist of bread.
It's a shame 'cos some of the dishes are nice. Like the vegetarian tartlets...
