Shane Warne and the 'Ball of the Century'

Sporting Witness

Available for over a year

In 1993, Shane Warne bowled arguably the most famous delivery in the history of the Ashes – the so-called “Ball of the Century”. On the first ball of his Ashes debut, Warne unleashed a leg break that spun so viciously it bamboozled England batsman Mike Gatting, the BBC commentary team and even his own wicket-keeper. The ball made Warne an overnight superstar and is credited with revitalising the art of spin-bowling. Simon Watts introduces the memories of Shane Warne and Mike Gatting.
