Reports from the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, say that government forces have taken control of the intelligence headquarters where security personnel loyal to former president Omar al Bashir were staging a revolt. Taiwan's newly re-elected leader has said the island is already independent and there's no need to declare it formally, in comments likely to anger Beijing.
