’40 killed’ in explosion at Libya migrant centre

At least 40 people have been killed by an air strike that hit a migrant detention centre in Libya, officials say. Another 80 are reported to have been wounded in the explosion, which happened at a facility in the eastern Tajoura suburb of the capital, Tripoli. EU leaders have put forward their nominations for the bloc's top jobs, with a woman for the first time proposed as European Commission chief. The surprise choice of German Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen to replace Jean-Claude Juncker came after the main front-runners were rejected. In Sudan, the Ethiopian mediators are calling for the transitional military council and representatives of the protesters to resume talks.
