'Suddenly you find out that they have disappeared'

Available for over a year

A Newcastle mum has told BBC Radio Newcastle her son has been missing for nine months after joining the Russian army to fight in the country’s full scale invasion of Ukraine. Nathan Stobbart moved to Russia to be with his girlfriend, however his family say he was told to sign up for a year’s military service, or face deportation. He kept all of this a secret from his devastated family back here, who only found out he’d joined the Russian army once he was missing. Martin Lindsay has been looking into the story.
