The Conservatives say they’ll stop long-term jobless benefit claimants from spending their welfare payments on alcohol, cigarettes and gambling, People who’ve been unemployed for more than six months would see their Universal Credit cut by 30% if they have not paid enough into the system, despite being able to work. This reduced rate would be paid onto a "Back to Work" card, which would stop cash withdrawals or spending on these items. The Tories say the proposals would encourage people back into work and cut the welfare bill but Labour say the scheme is "unworkable". 5 Live listeners share their thoughts with Nicky Campbell.
