London Uncovered

Available for over a year

The Cutty Sark was built exclusively for the China tea trade in 1869 in Dumbarton, Scotland. It cost £16,150 when it was first built. On its maiden voyage, the ship departed London on 15 February 1870, bound for Shanghai. It was moved to Greenwich in 1954 and opened to the public in 1957 by The Queen. On its 70th Anniversary at the dry dock in Greenwich, BBC Radio London's Robert Elms has been finding out more. (Image credit: Getty Images)
