Known as the ‘Cathedral of Sewage‘, Abbey Wood's Crossness Pumping Station first opened after The Great Stink of 1858. It was a fully functional sewage station until the 1950s and is now recognised as a “Grade 1 Listed industrial heritage site, and a masterpiece of 19th-century engineering, architecture, and design.” Qualified Blue Badge Tourist Guide Alex Lacey has been telling BBC Radio London's Claira Hermet all about it.
