Northern Ireland has its first nationalist first minister. Michelle O’Neill, the Sinn Féin vice-president, took on the role after a monumental few days. The Democratic Unionist Party agreed to restore a devolved government, after it struck a new deal with Rishi Sunak on Brexit trade arrangements. The move ended a two-year deadlock.
