Hundreds of thousands have been taking to the streets across Germany– demonstrating against the radical right – a political force fuelled, in part, by deep seated concerns about migration. There’s alarm across a nation that seeks to firmly repudiate its Nazi past. But – at the same time – many are voicing unhappiness about perceived economic decline, cost of living and influx of new residents. Against this background the anti-immigration, far-right Alterntif for Deutchsland party has flourished. After laying in the doldrums, it’s now riding high in Eastern States of Germany. So what’s going on? In this episode of our 5 Minutes On podcast, the BBC's Berlin Correspondent, Jess Parker has been to the city of Chemnitz in the state of Saxony to find out.
