London’s leading burns unit has warned about the danger of e-bike and e-scooter fires, after experiencing an ‘influx of serious burns’. Chelsea and Westminster NHS Hospital Burns Unit says burns from this type of fire tend to be deeper wounds that are only treatable by surgery. The rise in the number of fires started by faulty lithium-ion batteries is causing widespread concern. In London, it's the fastest fire trend according to the London Fire Brigade, with a blaze on average every two days. It's warning people to make sure they’re charging their e-scooters and e-bikes safely. The consequences for Scott Peden and his family were devastating.
