The Conservatives have suffered two by-election defeats to Labour in previously safe seats -- Mid Bedfordshire and Tamworth, in the Midlands. The Labour leader, Sir Keir Starmer, said it was "history in the making". The Tories have blamed the outcome on low turnout and their voters staying at home.
