The Arrest of Nicola Sturgeon - what does it mean for her and the SNP?

5 Questions On

Available for over a year

Scotland's former first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, has been released without charge, after being questioned by police investigating the SNP's finances. In a strongly worded statement, Ms Sturgeon said she knew "beyond doubt" she was innocent of any wrongdoing. She said "to find myself in the situation I did today when I am certain I have committed no offence is both a shock and deeply distressing". Police Scotland has been investigating for the past two years what happened to £660,000 of donations given to the SNP by independence activists for use in a future referendum campaign. The former party treasurer, Colin Beattie, and its former chief executive, Peter Murrell - who is Ms Sturgeon's husband - were both arrested and released without charge in April. So how significant are these latest developments? With the answers in this episode of 5 Questions On - is our Scotland correspondent, Lorna Gordon. Image Credit: PA
