The London based vocal harmony group, Flo, released their debut single - Cardboard Box - in March 2022. They won instant praise for their retro-style girl band sound, becoming the first group ever to win the Brits rising star award. They formed in 2019 and are made up of singers Stella Quaresma and Renée Downer - who met at the Sylvia Young Stage School - and Jorja Douglas, who they discovered on Instagram. Now, the trio have been named winners of the BBC's Sound Of list, which showcases the next big things in music. It's voted for by more than 130 industry experts, including representatives from Spotify, Apple Music and the Glastonbury Festival - with previous winners including Adele, Sam Smith and Pink Pantheress. Flo were told the news by Stormzy, who recorded a message describing them as "a breath of fresh air" who had "killed it in every single department".
