This December, nurses across England, Wales and Northern Ireland will walk out in a row over pay and patient safety. It’s the first ever national strike by the Royal College of Nursing. The union says members have had enough being taken for granted, of unsafe staffing levels and of not being able to give patients “the care they deserve”. But the government says their pay demands aren’t affordable. So what exactly do they want? And how did it come to this?
