Latest News Picks

Available for over a year

It's something every pet owner hopes they never have to do. For many, pets are part of the family, and to give them away would be like giving away a child. But as the cost of living continues to rise - including the price of pet food and vet bills - animals charities are reporting record numbers of people giving up their animals for adoption because they can't afford them anymore. For the latest episode of 5 Minutes On, BBC Social Affairs Reporter Eleanor Lawrie speaks to some of the people who’ve been forced to make the heart-breaking decision to give up their pets, and the charities that take these animals in.
