Lin-Manuel Miranda is a mega-star. He's an actor, singer-songwriter, playwright – creator of the massive Broadway musicals ‘In the Heights’ and ‘Hamilton’ and the soundtrack of Disney's ‘Encanto’. And now, his directorial debut - the movie ‘Tick, Tick... Boom’ – is Oscar nominated! The film is based on the autobiographical musical by playwright Jonathan Larson - of an aspiring composer in New York City who’s worried he made the wrong career choice, whilst navigating the pressures of love and friendship - something Lin says he really relates to. Larson is played by Andrew Garfield in the movie - Garfield has been nominated for Best Actor at this year's Academy Awards. For 5 Minutes On, Nihal Arthanayake – a presenter on BBC Radio 5 Live – speaks with Lin-Manuel Miranda about his life and career, their mutual love of hip hop and being "zen" with how the world receives his work.
