The making of Fairy Meadow - "a story I've become obsessed with"
Latest News PicksAvailable for over a year
The BBC's Jon Kay has been investigating the story of Cheryl Grimmer for six years. She was just three-years-old when she vanished from the changing rooms at Fairy Meadow beach in Australia in January 1970. The Grimmer family had emigrated from Bristol, where Jon is based. He explains how he has travelled thousands of miles and spent hundreds of hours making a podcast series in search of the truth - a series you can listen to in full on BBC Sounds. He speaks to potential witnesses and the family left behind - and reveals his amazement at the twists and turns his journey takes. For 5 Minutes On, he gives a personal account of how the story has affected him, saying, "anyone who's ever lost sight of a child will know that heart-stopping feeling when you suddenly can’t see them - even if it’s only for a few seconds. But what if that feeling goes on forever?" Image Credit - Jon Kay, BBC News
