Sickle cell disease runs in families, mostly of African descent, and affects the way our red blood cells carry oxygen around the body. It can damage bones and organs, block blood vessels - and cause excruciating pain. Now scientists in Nashville in the US are inching closer to a cure and Jimi Olaghere is one of the first to benefit. He's taken part in a new trial using gene therapy to engineer his blood. For 5 Minutes On, he tells the BBC's Health and Science Correspondent, James Gallagher, about his experience - and what it's like to live life pain free. Photo credit: Jimi Olaghere
