Hindemith wrote Trauermusik at a London hotel room on the evening of 20th January 1936, the day George V died. The reflective music makes the choice of viola as soloist perfect. Its lower, richer tone brings a melancholy air to the commemoration intended. Composer: Paul Hindemith Performers: BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra Performer: Scott Dickinson (Viola) Conductor: Martyn Brabbins Recording date: 13 December 2012 Date of broadcast: 13 December 2012
