In 1950 the musical 'Gay's The Word' - with book and music by Ivor Novello - opened in Manchester and ran for 500 performances. In Novello terms it wasn't a success and it was his last show. However, 'A Matter of Minutes' - an up-tempo love 'celebration' anticipates Sondheim's songs by 10 years.
