Cinemas in Africa

Artbeat

Available for over a year

A Revised repeat of a programme that reported from around Africa on the state of cinemas and film-making there. In Cairo there are crumbling cinemas and a fading national film industry as multiplexes and Hollywood films take over. In Johannesburg, South Africa, some cinemas are doubling up as homeless shelters. In Senegal, Cinema Libertie has a dubious reputation, but the 2000 seat cinema is often full.
