For so many in South Asian culture, food is never just food. It's memory, it's family, it's identity. It's a love language - a way of showing we care without needing words - and sometimes even just a single smell can transport us back to childhood. Now, a generation of content creators are determined to keep those recipes and traditions alive, while also bringing in a few of their own modern twists along the way. Reggie Batchu, known online as "badandbhajiii" online, and Thirsika Jeyapalan, AKA "itsthirsi", both share dishes of Tamil and Punjabi heritage. Speaking to Amber Haque, they reflect on their love of food with, sharing their favourite recipes, from treasured families favourites, to meals passed down through generations. But this is a conversation about much more than food. It's about grief, belonging, reconnecting with our routes, and finding joy. Diving into the stories behind the food, they reminisce about the people who made it, the memories attached, and why cooking can mean so much more than just what's on the plate. The biggest stories affecting Asian Network listeners across the UK with Amber Haque. Produced in Birmingham by Samsaara Productions for BBC Asian Network.
