Judicial affairs were disrupted on Wednesday as lawyers in the northern Sri Lankan district of Jaffna did not report to work as a protest.
Jaffna Bar Association (JBA) said a group has made death threats to lawyers asking for Rs. One million from each lawyer as ransom.
The association said the lawyers will not report back to work until police provide proper protection to their members.
Chief Justice Sarath Silva has informed the lawyers that a special arrangement was made to protect the lawyers in the district.
However, the JBA said, they would not report to work until the details are known about the said special arrangement.
