CWC tender resignation

Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) has walked out of Sri Lanka's governing coalition, dealing a blow to President Mahinda Rajapakse's administration.

The Vice President of The Ceylon Workers' Congress, R.Yogarajan said it was withdrawing over an unspecified insult to the party.

He said the party would not join another political party as had happened in the past.

"It will represent the parliament as an independent poliical party", he said.

Leader of the CWC, Arumugam Thondaman and four other deputy ministers (CWC) have tendered their resignations to President, Yogarajan said.
