A
period drama set in the pre-mahabarata era, 'Agni Varsha'
is a contemporary melodrama which depicts the gruelling story
of a village drought-striken.
To appease Indra, the Lord Of Rain, Paravasu is chosen by
the villagers as the high priest to perform the 'holy fire',
a rain-bringing ritual.
But
this choice is strongly opposed by Paravasu's cousin Yavakri,
whose jealousy and resentment proves to be rather dangerous
for all concerned.
Already premiered at The Commonwealth Film Festival in Manchester
in May 2002, 'Agni Varsha' received a standing ovation after
its prestigious screening.
