Stella is making sure that everyone is pulling their weight
to make Glenbogle a success. Archie has invited a journalist, Graham, to
come and stay and write a review on all the activities Glenbogle has to
offer. However, when he arrives it turns out he is Stella's ex-husband Lexie
and Archie hack into Graham's computer and discover that he is writing a
hatchet job about Glenbogle so that he can discredit Stella as revenge.
Archie doctors the article and e-mails it to Graham's editor. The editor
calls and congratulates Graham on the best article he's written. Graham
realises he has been set up but can't do anything about it. Duncan kidnaps
a coach load of tourists from a pub and takes them round his nature trail.
They have a wonderful time so, instead of being angry, the tour leader makes
Glenbogle a regular stop. Molly also manages to sell some of her paintings
to them and Hector finds his perfect role in the world of tourism - conducting
classes about malt whisky. |

Duncan has been corresponding with the delectable Marie-Helene
for years and he has told her that he not only owns Glenbogle, but that
he is in fact the Laird. When she announces her intention to visit, humiliation
is on the cards until Molly intervenes. Duncan pretends to be the laird,
whilst Archie will be Head Ranger. All is well until Mr Barr, an inspector
from the health and safety directorate, arrives unannounced. It is now up
to Archie to ensure that the estate gets a clean bill of health. Lexie,
meanwhile, makes the most of Archie's demotion to get close to him. As Duncan
settles into his life as the Laird, Archie is having difficulty with Mr
Barr. Before long, the estate is marked for closure. Meanwhile, Marie-Helene
reveals she's engaged, but she's had a row with her fiancée. Duncan
decides to help them get back together. Duncan sends Marie-Helene back to
into the arms of Alan. The estate bids farewell to Mr Barr, as Molly succeeds
in getting the estate a stay of execution in exchange for some good advice
and some complimentary roses. |

Hector's regimental reunion brings fresh chaos to Glenbogle
and more problems for Archie. To commemorate the occasion Stella has borrowed
a valuable regimental painting. However, disaster strikes when Lexie accidentally
puts a hole in it. To make matters worse Toad, Hector's old army pal, brings
more trouble for Archie and Glenbogle. He has returned from abroad to Britain
to set the record straight with Hector. Unfortunately he has also brought
a police tail with him. McCullen, the owner of the painting, is furious
at the estate's carelessness. He is demanding full compensation. Things
look desperate until the keen-eyed Toad spots that the painting is in fact
a fake. The shame faced McCullen is now faced with a different decision
- accept the painting's true value or face up to the police. With undercover
cops watching his every move, Archie must call on all his wit and cunning
to throw them off the scent and galvanise the household to help Toad. Like
something from The Great Escape and happily reliving their army days, the
veterans help Archie execute an elaborate diversion that culminates in Toad
flying off in a sea plane leaving Archie with a cheque to pay off McCullen.

With the estate finances back on track, Stella faces up
to her imminent departure from Glenbogle. A lavish Midsummer Ball has been
planned to celebrate the bank's achievements, and as a final test for Archie
before officially having the keys handed back to him. But, having lost her
heart to the penniless laird, Stella can't bear to leave and soon realises
that the best way to extend her stay is to ensure that the ball is a fiasco.
With the bank's top brass attending, Archie knows the ball must be a seamless
success. No easy task when you have an errant chef, a geriatric ceilidh
band and Hector conspiring to undo your best laid plans. With the preparations
in tatters, Archie seems set to fall at the final hurdle, until Lexie intervenes
and the ball is a success. The bank are delighted and, shamefaced, Stella
finally departs leaving Archie alone with Lexie. Archie finally sees what
has been under his nose all along - loyal, kind, beautiful Lexie. He proposes
on the spot and though Lexie hesitates to take the jump from cook to Mrs
Laird, the ball ends with Archie placing a ring on Lexie's finger and it
looks like after all these years perhaps Lexie will get to be the bride
after all... |

When Archie and Lexie announce their engagement they do
not receive the reaction they expected. Molly is thrilled, but Hector, on
the other hand, predicts that the marriage will be short-lived. For once,
Archie refuses to be peacemaker. He severs all ties with Hector, telling
him that the marriage will go ahead with or without his blessing. The two
men exchange harsh words, but Archie is unrepentant, little knowing that
tragedy lies just around the corner... Molly's younger brother, Jo arrives
unexpectedly from Africa. Lexie tries to seek reassurance from her old comrades
Golly and Duncan but it seems that not even Duncan has a good word to say
to her. A horrified Hector discovers that his beloved brown trout have been
decimated by a killer pike. Determined not to be outdone by this slippery
adversary, Hector resolves to rid his lochan of this pest by any means necessary.
Plastic explosives was probably not the best choice however, and the eccentric
Hector conspires to expire in the most extraordinary of circumstances. Hardly
surprising, given that the man never did anything ordinary in his life,
so why should his death be any different? |

Lexie fears that her wedding is jinxed. Has Hector's prediction
of dire calamity come true? Lexie begins to get a bad case of cold feet,
convinced that her big day will be a disaster. Her mother's suitably dramatic
arrival at Glenbogle doesn't help matters. With Archie also resolutely determined
to get married, Lexie feels trapped. Lexie is beginning to feel like a commodity
- her dream wedding fast becoming a nightmare. Archie muddles through his
father's funeral as best he can, but the truth is that Hector's death has
knocked him for six. He deeply regrets the bitter words he had with Hector,
and it isn't until his father appears to him in a dream to bless the forthcoming
wedding that Archie finally feels right with the world. However, by the
time Lexie's cold feet have carried her away from Glenbogle and on the morning
of the funeral she is nowhere to be found. Archie sets off in hot pursuit,
eventually managing to halt her bus to Glasgow. In front of a coach load
of passengers, Archie proclaims his love for Lexie, promising that the spirit
of Hector is behind them and that they won't get married until Lexie is
good and ready. There's not a dry eye in the house (or bus) as Lex and Archie
head back to Glenbogle.
