Wolfwother played the Radio 1 / NME Stage at 1300 on Saturday.
The sun is shining as Wolfmother's Andrew Stockdale surveys
his remarkably massive audience, his afro billowing in the wind.
This brief spell of summery weather is perfect for enjoying
some cracking nu-psychedelia - but a storm is brewing... "the
powers of rock are descending upon us" explains Stockdale.
The skies darken and the 'Mother launch into their new single,
the Hendrix-esqe Woman. Performed live, the song is so powerful
and delivered with such convincing swagger that it's easy to
forget that the riffs have leapt straight out of 1969 - this
sounds exciting!
A while back it seemed that The Darkness had hammered the final
nail into the coffin of irony-tinged power rock... but apparently
not.
Nowadays we just like our hands-in-the-air posturing and groin-powered
guitar with some swirly Hammond organ and a bit of substance.
Wolfmother deliver.
