Nightmares on Wax and Cut Copy warmed up the Slammers on Saturday
afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Slam Tent's latest act is keeping variety alive.
They may look like any nouveau-electropop indieboys but Cut
Copy are a cut above.
The emphasis is on irresistible beats and mixing things up -
the squealing of the guitar's feedback gives way to that of
synth and it certainly wakes up the Slam-goers. Things don't
usually get quite so euphoric this early in the proceedings...
The folks at Slam don't mess about (which is wise - the dancing
people don't want to wait). There's barely time for DJ Ease
to straighten up his fetching cap before things kick off again.
Nightmares on Wax like to start off easy with some fantastic,
soulful vocals and head-nodding beats. Pretty soon the stage
fills up with guest vocalists, each bringing something to the
party: the beats get bouncier, sirens kick in and the lights
flash rainbow colours.
Whether or not there's a howling gale outside, at 1430 in the
Slam Tent it's deepest, darkest summer.
