Maximo Park played the Main Stage at 1500 on Saturday.
Usually such dashing chaps, those Maximo Park boys. Strange,
then, that they should turn out at the biggest festival of the
summer so underdressed.
Resplendent in bobble hat and black heavy metal t-shirt, frontman
Paul Smith explains: "We were at a metal festival in Slovakia."
They didn't fit in so they bought the t-shirt. There's a metaphor
in there somewhere.
"Everybody tries to look fancy on stage so we're rebuffing
them."
Thankfully, the music is well-tailored. 'Now I'm All Over the
Shop (deceptively named, that one - its delivery is super-tight)
manages to rock out pleasingly, despite the occasional rock-opera
style piano licks.
They rattle through the rest of an impressive set, finishing
with the ever-popular, ever sing-a-longable Going Missing. Sterling
stuff.
