Life in Ayr

I lived at 2 Cathcart Street Ayr, does anyone remember the two tanks outside the Pavilion until the War?

I can also recall shops closed on Sundays, best clothes on Sunday, Saunders the grocers, the harbour full of fishing boats, Greens Play House, Skating Rink, the Yanks during the War, many memories, also good fish & chips. Good old Ayr!

I remember working at Butins holiday camp in Ayr in the late 50's. I don't ever remember going off the camp. As you can imagine there was no need to go into town as there was plenty to keep us occupied on camp.

Does anyone know the whereabouts of Margaret Conell and her sister Morweg? They lived in a cottage just up from Blairgowrie High.

Dear All
I would be very grateful for any help in obtaining old photographs or newspaper items etc regarding the above. We have purchased the old Ayr Pavilion and are renovating the west elevation to form an old fashioned tearoom with the theme of 'A Trip Down Memory Lane '
Any stories or items of memorabilia will be on display in the tearoom for all visitors to explore.
any advice as to where to find memorabilia, photos, etc would also be appreciated.

Anyone know what happed to the bakeries in Ayr. When I was living there we had Girwoods,Gilchristsand the one I remember by the auld brig. It was just round the corner from the curly chip shop.I also went to st margarets school and was born in the spieing scope on king street.
