In the 60s many people did not believe that plans introduced to change money from old pounds, shillings and pence to today’s decimal currency would happen. But in 1961 the farthing was taken out of circulation.
A farthing was ¼ of a penny and there were 240 pennies in a pound. There were 20 shillings in a pound and the old ten shilling note was changed over to a 50 pence piece in 1969. Phew!
