Music was very important to many people in the 60s. There was pop, rock, soul and a popular folk scene in Scotland.
Nancy talks about folk music in Scotland.
In the 50s most of the popular music had been made by American groups but in the 60s the Beatles arrived and took the world by storm. This was great for other British groups because the world now had their eye on the UK. Bands like the Rolling Stones, The Who, The Animals and The Kinks all became hugely successful.
Some of the big names in Scottish music at the time:
 Donovan. |

Born in Glasgow, Donovan really hit the big time in 1965 when he appeared on a British music programme called Ready Steady Go. His music originally had a folk music feel to it but throughout the sixties it changed to a more psychedelic sound (like a lot of the music in the sixties). He was very successful in both the UK and America.
