Prestonpans, 1745. Battle lines have been drawn!

Lose this battle and the Jacobite rising is over! What will you do!

Prestonpans

Lord George Murray, Jacobite Army General

This is a good place to attack. The ground suits our soldiers and they can charge at the enemy. If we win this battle we will control Scotland! We MUST fight this battle!

John O' Sullivan, Jacobite Army Officer

I don't like this place – the ground is too flat and open. Our men will get shot to pieces if we charge at the enemy. We can't afford to lose a battle. If we lose it's all over for us! Let's retreat and fight another day!

James MacDonald, Jacobite soldier

I'm scared. I don't mind saying it. I've never been in a battle before and I don't want to die. I don't really know what we're fighting for and I'm a long way from home. I'll do what I'm told. I'll fight. I'll fight for my clan and my Prince. I won't let them down. I'll be brave.

Letter from a British Army Soldier

Dear Molly, things are pretty bad here. The Jacobites have raised an army and we are due to fight them tomorrow outside Edinburgh. Our army is very small and most of our men are injured and tired. No-one is looking forward to it. I only hope I live to see you again. I miss you very much. Love, Callum.
