We’ve just come back from Sanday. We were doing some bird watching. Apparently Seanair and Morag don’t watch the same sort of birds as I do… we were sitting in a little hut, and had to be very quiet so as not to scare birds away. Still, it wasn’t so bad. I listened to my music whilst enjoying the views of the countryside. The appearance of birds was probably wasted on me. Beak, wings, feathers … all kind of look the same to me. I made a ‘hilarious joke’ about birds, but Morag just scowled at me … oops.

There are just so many islands here, that even a month might not be enough time to see them all! We even flew to one of them, which was weird. We took longer getting on and off the plane then we did actually flying!

I think it’s just some more sightseeing and touring around for us here. I’ll see you from our next location! Mar sin leibh!

A bheil sibh gu math? Eh, eh??

We all headed to Sanday yesterday to learn more about Whale Head, where there was a radar station during the Second World War. It’s weird to think that the conflict was having an effect, even this far north. Makes you think what a terrible time it must have been. Better ask Seanair about it … he’s old enough to remember, but he might not WANT to remember it.

There’s been plenty else going on ... last week Melodaidh took part in a triathlon in Kirkwall. The idea of swimming in cold water and then having to go on a bike wasn’t exactly appealing, so I gave it a miss. But with her surfing experience (and a wet suit) she didn’t mind the cold. There was a bit of a panic to get a bike, but she found one in the end. Maybe not as speedy as she would have liked, but it did the job. Eventually. It’s a good thing she went so fast in the swimming section…

I’d best be off for now. Tìoraidh!

Halò! Tha e gu math gaothach an seo ann an Arcaibh! A great place to go kite-flying or windsurfing.

Wow! It’s good to get a break! On our first day here, the Orkney International Science festival was already underway, and I decided to take part in the Bisgeos 12-mile run on Saturday!

After all the outdoor activities and walking we’ve been doing all year, I thought I would probably be able to give it a good go. Melodaidh came along with me too. I thought Seanair would want to join, but he wasn’t interested in racing. Not what the outdoors was about, he said. Anyway, Melodaidh and I ran the race together. We didn’t finish first, but we weren’t last across the finish line either. Not bad for people who weren’t training, eh?

And there’s the science festival to keep us all quiet. It’s looking at the life of James Clerk Maxwell. He’s a really important scientist from the 19th century. He did a lot of important things which helped Einstein, so that’s pretty cool.

Time to be off. With all that’s going on I definitely need a rest!
