Hello everyone.
I should have said ‘Feasgar math’ or ‘Latha math’ or ‘Ciamar a tha sibh?’ shouldn’t I? I’ll get into trouble from Dwelly for not using my Gaelic!
What a hectic month in Lochaber last month. I still chuckle to myself when I think about Dwelly trying to get into the gondolas at the Nevis Range – when they wouldn’t let him on, he tried to claim he was a ‘guide’ and that didn’t work either. When we got out at the top he was there ahead of us, so I don’t know how he managed that!
We’ve got an exciting month ahead. Even better for me is that all the excitement of the outdoors will be curtailed by the long, dark Highland nights. There will only be a limited amount of daylight for Seanair to rally us to his hill walking standard, and if we can distract him enough then maybe I won’t have to climb so many hills! Here’s hoping!
There are so many islands around here that we won’t be short on views or travel opportunities – Mull, Iona, Islay, Jura, Lismore …. wonderful. Once I’ve had a few cuppas, I’ll make sure I keep you all posted.
Tìoraidh an-dràsta!

It’s been a super week as far as I’m concerned, even if SOMEBODY YOUNGER can’t stand a wee bit of cold weather! All he (oops, I’ve given it away, haven’t I?) needs is a good warm scarf and a hat. Munro did once tell me that he wouldn’t remove his ear plugs because they kept his ears warm, but they weren’t keeping him too toasty this week and didn’t we hear all about it! Honestly ….
We had a trip to Kilmartin Glen, which is one of the most fascinating archaeological sites in Scotland. I have found out that there are over 350 archaeological sites within a six-mile radius of Kilmartin village itself, and just under half of those are prehistoric. Those are, contrary to what Munro harrumphed the other day, NOT the same age as I am!
While we were there we visited the ‘Views, Visions, Voices’ exhibition in Kilmartin house Museum – absolutely wonderful to have a look at such a fascinating enterprise. There was even an art installation in the environment – a circular timber enclosure.
Munro asked if we would be artifacts ourselves by the time we’d finished. That boy has no patience!
Feumaidh mi falbh an-dràsta. Tìoraidh!

Abair mìos! That means ‘What a month!’ Dwelly taught me that one. He also taught me ‘Abair balach!’ which means ‘What a boy!’ Of course, that’s a phrase I’ve been using to describe Munro when he’s been misbehaving, but I can’t quite match Dwelly’s tone yet.
Getting back to ‘abair mìos’, bha sinn gu math, math trang. It’s been hectic – I hope 2008 is slightly quieter! A definite highlight for me was the trip to Oban. That is such a pretty town. The novel ‘Morven Callar’ was set there, and thank goodness the same fate didn’t befall any of us. If you haven’t read it yet, I’ll not spoil the surprise!
Is fheàrr dhomh falbh. Tha e a’ fàs anmoch is tha mi gu math sgìth a-nis!
Oidhche mhath, a h-uile duine!
