Sorry it’s been such a long while. Just when I was beginning to relax, Dwelly decided we should begin our task of making a short film. Oooh dear … you know I’m not very creative at this kind of thing and they have me directing. Melodaidh, of course, was just wonderful and I think I may have made a bit of a pig’s ear of it all. Not to worry anyway. The Celtic Media Festival begins here tomorrow, so we shall see what that will bring. I don’t think we’ll be winning any prizes anyway!

Oh, my poor feet! Gort, or is it ‘goirt’? We went to cèilidh dance classes in a little hall in a place called Kilmuir last night. It was quite a lot of fun really, especially watching Munro trying to do a Boston 2-step. I don’t think he’s done much cèilidh dancing before and he was really trying to impress Melodaidh.
Kilmuir is in the north end of the island and Flora MacDonald of Bonnie Prince Charlie fame is buried here. There is a really fascinating museum that consists of thatched houses filled with history and information on the area. I find the local history just enthralling. I would be here all night writing about it if I could, but Munro is skulking about to get online so I better go. He has really been a big help with this computering thing though.

Oh well, I’m still here. Our walk was rather nice although I couldn’t keep up with the young folk and Seanair, but I managed it at the pace of the ranger. The Cuillins are very majestic and I’ve seen some really amazing scenery on my trip so far. It’s like nothing I’ve experienced before but neither are the bunions of course. LoL (Munro tells me this means Laugh Out Loud in blog language!) The Gaelic is coming along little by little, and I@M getting used to the computer. I have to say this trip may be the best thing I’ve done in a long while. Although I do wish we’d get a little more R and R time.

Hello…erm ciamar a tha sibh?
Here I am, back again! We went to a really very lovely concert last night at the Aros centre in Portree. A young girl called Julie Fowlis was playing along with a young fiddler called Jenna Reid.
They were both really very good and the Gaelic songs and tunes were just magical. Melodaidh was really rather taken with the singing and has now found yet another hobby – learning Gaelic songs – she hasn’t stopped singing all day.
I can’t sing a note but it’s nice to listen nonetheless. Today, we’re going on a “ramble” with the Highland Council ranger beneath the Cuillins. It will be very good, I’m sure. It begins in a place called Glen Brittle, which is on the other side of the island so I’m sure we’ll enjoy exploring another part of the island… well, I think anyway. As long as this ranger isn’t as fast as Melodaidh and Seanair! I’m getting slightly nervous about it all. Oh well, I’ll let you know how I hold up I better get going it starts at 11.00am!

Feasgar Math,
That is our first weekend in Portree over with and it was really very pleasant. The weather stayed dry enough for Seanair and I to go on a short stroll around a place called Scorrybreac. Now this land is actually owned by the clan Nicolson and was a very interesting walk altogether, we even saw some sea eagles.
Portree has some very nice little shops on the main street. I’ve enjoyed picking up some souvenirs. So, all in all, the weekend hasn’t been too active yet, I’m glad to say. Although we do have some walking activities planned for later on in the week. I think my bunions will have recovered by then …….. oh dear.

Em … yes, well that’s us arrived on the Isle oF Skye, and it was just the most beautiful journey from Fort William.
I’m really rather beginning to enjoy this travelling and you know if it wasn’t for Melodaidh I would never have done it at all. I’m a bit wobbly with the Gaelic yet but hopefully that will come once my nerves calm down a bit.
So we came through some exceptional scenery on our way up here. Melodaidh is really rather nifty with the camera so has taken some lovely snaps. I’m not too good with these new fangled digital cameras so I leave it to her. Here we are in Portree, a nice colourful little town. Port Rìgh actually means King’s Port in Gaelic, which is all very interesting. Okay, we shall see what this trip will bring. I will write back soon.
