Halò a-rithist,

We were at the Lewis Highland Games last week. It’s so good to see that the traditional Highland ways are being kept alive! There were lots of other things going on as well, just as interesting as the games! (Although I doubt that Munro Jr would agree!)

I think I got a bit carried away with all the stalls, looking at all the crafts and such like. I hope I have enough money left for the rest of the year…

We also went to see the “Callanish Standing Stones.” It must be one of the most impressive man-made sites to be seen in all of Scotland! It is a stunning circle of stones, with lines of stones along the four points of the compass. It’s around four thousand years old, and a truly spectacular site! Some of the stones are as much as 5 metres tall! It’s mind-boggling to think how it was made…

Feumaidh sinn na h-Eileanan Siar fhàgail a dh’aithghearr. I’ll write from our next location!

We were at the Hebridean Celtic Festival this weekend. There was a lot of Gaelic singing, which I enjoyed. The poetry of Murdo MacFarlane was celebrated too, which was good. He was called ‘The Melbost Bard’, and he was born and lived just a little bit outside Stornoway.

Lots of the music went on late into the night. I might have been able to stay up a few years ago, but I think those days are behind me! It wasn’t really my cup of tea. Speaking of tea, I think I hear the kettle. Bye for now!

Tha a’ ghrian a’ deàrrsadh, is tha a h-uile rud glè mhath!

This really is a very interesting place! We went to see the exhibitions at Taigh Chearsabhagh in North Uist. There were some really great things to see. There was an exhibit highlighting the effects of climate change, using recycled paper! I think that’s just really clever. It’s such an important issue, and I think it’s brilliant that it’s being thought about.

We also visited the ruins of the house where Flora Macdonald was born. I don’t think Munro Jr was really very impressed; he obviously doesn’t know much about his Scottish history!

Bonnie Prince Charlie led the Jacobites in a rebellion, trying to restore his family to the British throne. They were defeated at the Battle of Culloden, and Bonnie Prince Charlie had to go into hiding. Flora Macdonald helped him escape from Benbecula to Skye. She was arrested and held in the Tower of London. A true Scottish heroine!

I’m getting carried away with all this Scottish history!

Le gaol,

Fàilte! Tha sinn uile glè thoilichte an seo ann an Leòdhas! Tha an t-uabhas againn ri dhèanamh!

I think I will definitely have to return to do and see everything here!

We’d heard that the beaches here are just beautiful, and they are indeed. White sand stretching across the bays, without another soul in sight! It was magnificent. It was good to have a nice, relaxed time, rather then clambering up and down the hillside. There is lots of history around here to learn as well, and I can’t wait. I just hope we have enough time to explore it all!

Chì mi a-rithist sibh.
