It’s good to get a minute’s rest! Not that I’m not enjoying everything we’re doing, but when it’s all go, it’s good to get a few moments to yourself!
The cèilidh the other night was really fantastic! Munro was simply swept off his feet by Melodaidh, and Seanair had me dancing the night away! The live music and the dancing really make for a great atmosphere and a great evening!
And we’re not long back from the “From Celts to Kings” event. It had a series of re-enactments and scenes from characters and people who were a part of Nairn’s history. It was a really good way of showing what life was like, and for getting people involved in history. I don’t understand how people like Munro can be so uninterested in such an incredible topic!

We spent yesterday at a very interesting event called “Links to the Past and Present.” It looked at the history of Nairn over the last 150 years. It was really quite interesting. I found out about a man called Dr John Grigor, who did an awful lot for the town of Nairn. He built lots of hotels, and brought lots of tourism to the area too. It could be said that he made Nairn the town that it is today.
It’s always amazed me how a place can change so much in quite a short time. Nairn used to be centred very heavily on the fishing industry, whereas now it relies on the tourism industry. It really is quite fascinating how an area can change so dramatically, and change the way so many people lead their lives, in quite a short time scale.
There’s plenty more for us to be doing, with a cèilidh coming up soon. I might even dance a little bit myself! And there’s another historical event coming up, too. No rest for the wicked!
Le gaol,

Hàlo a h-uile duine! Ciamar a tha sibh a-nochd? Tha mi an dòchas gu bheil sibh gu math! We’ve all been terribly busy here in Nairn. The Nairn International Jazz Festival was what we spent most of the first week or so doing. Although I’m not usually a fan of live music, I must say that I enjoyed this! I even found myself going to some of the late performances!
I preferred the more restrained music to some of the more frenetic, or ‘freeform’ jazz (as I believe it’s called).
Despite having enjoyed it so much, I can only remember a handful of the names. But I can tell you that everything I heard was very good, and I highly recommend it all. I might even get Munro to help me with getting some LPs now! That’s a bit beyond my IT skills.
We also went along to the Anagach Woods Open day. At first I thought it would be another hard day’s walking, but it turned out to be a far more relaxed day than I thought it would be. There were some family games, and some very nice walks. A nice change of pace to the treks Seanair is usually taking us on!
