BBC Radio 5 Live Alternative Commentary (Audio Description) for selected World Cup games

For some matches on BBC One and BBC One HD, we’re offering an alternative form of audio description (AD) to improve the experience for AD users.

When AD is turned on, you’ll hear commentary from BBC Radio 5 Live instead of the usual TV commentary during the match. Commentary will revert to the standard BBC One audio at half-time and after the match.

If you would like to return to the BBC One commentary during the match, switch AD off.

For instruction on how to enable AD, please refer to our help site article.

Troubleshooting

I don’t want radio commentary

Switch Audio Description (AD) off to return to standard TV commentary.

I can hear both TV and radio commentary at the same time

Some Freeview and YouView receivers may not fade the main audio correctly.

Try the following:

  • Switch Audio Description (AD) off

  • If using BBC One SD, switch to BBC One HD

The audio is faint or missing

If Audio Description is removed due to operational issues, audio may become faint or silent.

To restore sound:

  • Change channel and then switch back again
